THank you South Florida

I am very grateful for the time that I’ve spent at Florida Grand Opera. The past three seasons have been one of the most transformative periods of my career so far, including my main stage debuts at Indianapolis Opera and FGO, my promotion to Director of Artistic Operations, and the birth of my son.

But while my career has skyrocketed in the last few years, family life has as well. My wife has done a tremendous job of keeping us afloat, though floating isn’t exactly thriving either. I had to seriously consider how much longer we could keep burning the candle on both ends for the sake of my career.

After careful consideration, I accepted a position at Florida State University in Tallahassee. My new position as the Opera Program Manager will allow me to be able to help out more at home in balance with my career. I am also very excited to work with Bernard McDonald, James Marvel, and the rest of the talented staff and faculty at FSU and give back to the university that gave me the keys to my career. I am sad to leave the great audiences in South Florida behind, but I will be back again next winter to direct L’elisir d’amore.

I have to thank Susan Danis for first hiring me at Florida Grand and for being a tremendous mentor and believer in me. I also could not have done anything without the great Artistic staff we assembled through the years, as well as three classes of talented Studio Artists. I wish Maria Todaro and the rest of the staff the best of luck as they continue to reshape the identity and mission of FGO in South Florida.

My work as an administrator and director will continue, but in the quieter, calmer capital city that I know so well. I will miss the ocean breeze, the amazing food, and kind audiences that I met during my time at FGO.
